Where Are You Going?

Microsoft Office 2007 was redesigned based on user experiences. The design teams determined the tools that people used the most and placed them "up front." The menus were replaced with Ribbons. Ribbons are Tabs of functions that work together.

For example, all of the options for making a Mail Merge have been gathered on the Mailings tab.

Some tool bars are activated when you need them. When you click on a picture, the Picture Tools are displayed. When you click back on text, the Picture Tools are turned off.

Each Ribbon may have many Groups, and Commands. In the example on this page, the Font group includes Bold, Italic, Underline, etc.

Office 2010 builds on that rich Ribbon experience.
